alien blockbuster or lackluster?
Cruise, Robbins, Spielberg, over the top fx(s), aliens, the extermination of all humans...has to be good, right? Well you just hold on there Buster Brown. I'm not going to spoil the plot here, in this review, but how could I? There isn't one to spoil to begin with. If have a couple of hours to kill, are tired of watching West Wing reruns on Bravo, and nothing good has arrived yet from Netflix go waste your hard earned money. I double dog dare you. sure, this movie will make a ton of dough-ray-me but what self-respecting summer alien blockbuster doesn't? Remember independence day? A modern day classic...you say. Well, this is right up your alley then.
Even the ending left something to be desired. It reminded me once again how difficult it can be to wrap up a plotless movie. it was almost as embarrassing as the ending of Signs. Seriously...water...water is like acid to aliens. So, let's attack a planet 3/4th covered in acid! Someone didn't do their research. They were hell bent on extermination and "there's no time for love Dr. Jones".
2 out of 5. 1 star for Dakota fanning. 1 star for you if you decide to rent any other Spielberg movie.
