Are Osama bin Laden and Toby Keith the same person?
(figuratively speaking, we all know Osama bin Laden looks much better in a handkerchief and cowboy hat than Toby Keith)
The similarities:
1. Use of inane rhetoric to enrage a group of people that would rather be told what to think than come to their own conclusions.
2. Claims of patriotism intertwined with thoughts of "kickin' ass".
3. Only interested in money/power, and willing to use peoples "patriotism" to achieve that goal.
4. Both invited to the CMT music awards this year.
5. Osama bin Laden orchestrated and rejoiced in the 9/11 attacks. Toby Keith is happy about America "lighting up their sky like the fourth of July", which assuredly only resulted in the deaths of our "enemy" and no innocents (oh boy, I'm going to jail for that comment).
Apparently, I'm very bitter about Toby Keith. I have some issues. It just irritates me that he sells the same crap he's supposedly "fighting". I know this happens all of the time. I know this is a small battle to fight. But it just really, really irks me. I don't know how I truly feel about the "war on terrorism" or the war in Iraq. I don't support the concept of either, but I also see that something needs/needed to be done. And that once we're committed, protesting the fact that we went to war is pointless. We can campaign for an end to it, and we can come up with ways to stop what is happening, but crying over spilled milk is just that, crying over spilled milk. The carpet's already stained, man. Now do something about it.
But blatantly rejoicing in the destruction of another culture is just so...disappointing.
